Review: Kellett Skincare
It’s funny how life works. I remember me as a high school student awkwardly waiting in Dr. Kellett’s office on Avenue Road awaiting to see what she could do for my teenage acne. Sure enough, after using her product line for a short period of time, my skin cleared up. However, if you’re like me and get bombarded with new products and developments in skincare- the clairisonic brush, microdermabrasion, or your friend recommends you a cleanser which you simply must try, it’s hard to stick with a simple routine!
This is why I think it’s a blessing in disguise that I was approached by Helen from The SkinY, one of Canada’s only lifestyle sites dedicated to skincare to review Dr. Lisa Kellett’s products exclusively. As well, now that I’m a bit older than in high school – just sayin, I tested out a few other products other than the Clear Polishing Gel Cleanser such as the Boost Peptide Gel and the Boost Topical Retinol Serum from the Kellett Skincare line.
To give you a bit of background, Kellett Skincare is a skincare line created by Dr. Lisa Kellett, one of Canada’s top dermatologist’s – and was initially created to resolve clients concerns regarding adult acne and signs of aging congruently.
When Helen contacted me, I had consequently been on the market for a new cleanser – where I had an a-ha moment! This cleanser worked for me, so why on earth did I stop using it? After using it again for a few weeks, I fell back in love with the gentle exfoliants. I always feel like you need a little bit of a scrub to get your face clean – but don’t rub too hard! The cleanser is also fragrance and paraben free which makes it great for people like me with sensitive skin. It’s so nice that you also only need to use a very tiny amount of the product – I’m talking pea size, and apply it to your wet skin for 1-2 minutes.
After using this product for a few weeks, any dry patches on my skin were gone completely. As well, the texture of my skin was much softer, and the redness and inflammation which occurred I did break out decreased as well.
Overall, I’d really recommend this cleanser for people with dry, combination, and sensitive skin who have trouble with the occasional breakouts. And remember use sparingly! You aren’t a miner and your face never needs to be washed harshly.
As I mentioned before, I’ve had the pleasure of using this fabulous cleanser. However stepping into my mid-twenties, it’s come time to focus on some things that may not have been a concern while I was younger. The moisture of your skin will naturally decrease as you age, and from what I have gathered from my research – all skin types loose the natural hyaluronic acid which is found in your skin. Kellett BOOST Peptide Gel is Sodium hyaluronate, which is used to keep the pH of the product close to that of the skin, 5.5.This gel is designed to enhance skin’s natural moisture, increase collagen production and reduce signs of aging. Hyaluronic acid itself, is a naturally occurring substance in the human body; and is used in in many dermal fillers to instantly restore volume and give the skin a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.
While the Peptide Gel may be a bit out of your budget, let me tell you this product is unlike anything you’ve used before – it’s worth it. The consistency of it is almost like a jelly and the gel almost has a cooling relaxing effect on your skin. I love putting it under my eyes because it feels like i’m instantly woken up! Definitely a product I would recommend for anyone because I guarantee you your skin is lacking some moisture and this is the product that is going to give it to you.
Finally, if there was ever a skincare godsend, it would be in the form of retinoids. The Kellett Boost Topical Retinol Serum unclogs pores, boosts collagen to reduce appearance of fine lines and speeds cell turnover to help even out discoloration and smooth skin. I’ve been using a form of retinoids on my skin for a while and now that I know it comes in a serum form (rather than a gel), I’m quite excited. Even better is that if you use this product, (again a bit pricey but SO worth it), in combination with the peptide gel, it really really gets into your pores and you can see the results of smaller pores, reduced breakouts and overall brighter skin.
If you’re interested in any of these products I would recommend heading over to Helen’s site, The SkinY where you can read more reviews and also more skincare tips and tricks from Dr. Kellett.
